Podcast Episode 48: SQUAWKER AND DOLPHIN SWIMMING TOGETHER

produced by

Aaron: I’m Aaron Kling, audio editor for Reckoning, and listeners, if you’re feeling cold, this episode will warm you right up. It’s “SQUAWKER AND DOLPHIN SWIMMING TOGETHER”, from Reckoning 7, written and read by T.K. Rex. I really enjoyed “SQUAWKER AND DOLPHIN”. Before it’s a story about climate, it’s a story about building interspecies bridges, hand to flipper. Before it’s a story about communication, it’s a story about a changing world through a new pair of eyes. And before all that, it’s a story about curiousity, about being willing to push out of your own sphere and into someone else’s, even if you’ve got to go underwater to do it. And I think that’s worth a listen. Right?

SQUAWKER AND DOLPHIN SWIMMING TOGETHER by T.K. Rex

T. K. Rex looks at the camera with a conspiratorial smile, wearing a gray hoodie, lit by direct sunlight in Dolores Park, with the San Francisco skyline in the background. The author presents as perhaps in their 30s, and vaguely femme, although they identify as nonbinary and use the pronouns she and they interchangeably. They have long, dark brown hair, brown eyes, and fair-to-olive skin with a significant nose that isn't exactly Jewish or Roman, but some delightfully unholy alliance of both (in the author's own words). The photo was taken by fellow author Giovanna Lomanto circa 2024.

  1. Hearing Mx. Rex read this moved me to tears, but then I live in Port Charlotte and have seen hurricanes come and go since Charley in 2004! Their vision of finally beginning to communicate with the most curious NHI on the planet, which we are only just now beginning to appreciate, is sublime and profound! I look forward to their forthcoming anthology with great anticipation!
